LONG AWAITED DOUBLE POLE TO WIN PROMOTES OSHIMA TO CHAMPIOSHIP LEAD

@Focus was on two young drivers starting from the first grid when the formation lap for the 15th round started at 0:50 pm on Sunday. Next to Oshima sat Tsukakoshi, who had set the exactly the same time as Oshima on Saturday. Ishiura, Jarvis, Streit and Izawa dominated the second and third rows on the grid. Due to the hot conditions of ambient temperature of 32 degrees and road surface temperature of 45 degrees C many drivers expressed concern about too much oversteer, and every squad was busy working on the car set up on the grid.

@While Oshima made a good start as 21-lap race started at 0:53 pm, Tsukakoshi made a far better start to enter the first corner ahead of Oshima, Jarvis, Izawa, Ishiura and Bamba. After a fierce battle in the first corner Streit lost several places. Sekiguchi starting seventh on the grid took time to restart the stalled engine to lose a lap already.

@Instead of building a lead Tsukakoshi made a mistake in braking in Dunlop corner on the first lap, slightly out braked himself and allowing Oshima to close in right behind him. Taking advantage of Tsukakoshifs slip in the first corner on lap two Oshima succeeded in retaking top spot. The pole winner then tried to pull away from Tsukakoshi as if he had attempted to reproduce the racing developments on previous day, but despite hard charging from Jarvis in the early stages Tsukakoshi gradually increased his pace to hold on to the second, though falling short of Oshima. Starting from back of the grid Streit made up lost ground in the mid stages to get ahead of Bamba, Yasuda and Izawa, and battle for fourth with Ishiura was settled when Ishiura went off the track due to braking failure.

@Oshima finally made a-year cherished dream of double pole-to-win at his home ground Fuji by extending the winning streak from Autopolis up to three. This race weekend also promoted him into the championship lead, ahead of Tsukakoshi and Jarvis. Streit slipped from top to fourth, with Ishiura fifth and Izawa sixth in the points.
